We’re only 39 days away from the New Year. The next month is going to be a busy one. We need to do a lot before Christmas. For most people, December is the month to reflect over the past year. We create our new list of goals. It’s time of the year when we throw off old things and we pray for happiness and success.

I would like to suggest my list of eight things that must be reviewed before the new year. Reflecting over these options can make your personal and business life much better.

Create Bigger, But Focused Goals

You need bigger dreams to stay motivated and excited. But don’t let this disturb your focus. Never create a goal with a deadline of 6+ months. In my opinion, we can achieve all small or big goals within 6 months. In fact, I do a personal review each 3 months. It’s helpful in getting a performance analysis. At the same time, we cannot achieve everything in just 3 or 6 months. Here is the solution:

Focus on Objects That Bring True Joy

Most people create conditional “to-do” lists. These conditions are imposed by the society. These are not your true desires.

Resolve to throw off such goals. Only focus on your true desires and make your dreams come true.

Let Go

There are two known reasons for every problem. 1) Our inability to accept what’s necessary for growth. 2) Our inability to let go of that which is no longer required.

If we can understand these two steps, we can solve all personal problems. You must let go of painful memories and emotions. In the business world, you need to let go of expensive customers.

Review this list and see what you must eliminate from your life.

Destroy Old Electronics and Files

There is no need to keep paper files in this digital world. Scan your important documents. Use a paper shredder and clear your work table. The same goes for your inbox and computer files.

Do the same with old electronics and wires.

Revise Your Marketing Strategy

Businesses cannot survive without marketing. In Real Estate industry, you’re considered lucky, if your closing rate is near 20%. That means you’re able to secure 2 deals out of every 10 offers.

It’s time to revise the work strategy. Gather the sales data from 2016. Apply the 80/20 rule. Choose the core tasks that bring the most value. Drop the other methods and only focus on the best.

Re-write Your Resume & Profiles

Online resumes are necessary for marketing purposes. But, it’s hard to find time to re-arrange those pages. Take some time to update your resume with new skills and achievements. It’ll most likely pay off in the next year.

Update Your Website

Most companies have a website, but it is not updated regularly. Have a look at your website. Change the business logo and visuals. Post some fresh content. A website is an important marketing tool. Give yours a facelift and get ready for 2017.

Write a Thank You Note

It’s the end of 2016.  If you reflect over the past year, you’ll see the value in hard times. You’ll cherish those moments of happiness.

Take some time to appreciate the last year. Companies use this strategy to say thanks to their customers. Try the same approach. Write a “thank you” note to your spouse, friends, family members and anyone who brings something valuable to your life.
